ABOUT US

Texas Clinic was founded out of necessity and compassion in the fall of 1984. When a government-funded opioid treatment program in Houston Heights abruptly lost its funding, psychiatrist Manazir Shamsi, MD — an experienced physician in addiction medicine — stepped in to ensure patients would not be left without care. By December 1984, he had filed the necessary applications and launched the first Texas Clinic location on Westview Drive in the Spring Branch area.

The response was immediate and overwhelming. Texas Clinic Westview quickly reached capacity, underscoring the urgent need for high-quality substance use treatment in Houston. Just 10 months later, in October 1985, Dr. Shamsi expanded operations and opened Texas Clinic Fulton, initially occupying part of a building that also housed the headquarters of Clayton Supermarket. As demand continued to grow, the clinic eventually expanded into the entire space.

In 1989, following the completion of his MBA from the University of Houston, Dr. Shamsi’s eldest son, Farrukh, joined the clinic as an administrator. He became the Program Sponsor of Texas Clinic Fulton in February of 2000 and began leading the clinic into its next phase of growth and advancement.

In 2023, Texas Clinic Fulton moved into a brand-new, state-of-the-art two-story facility just across the street—allowing us to better serve the growing number of individuals in need of treatment for opioid and alcohol dependence.

The same year, in February of 2000, Dr. Shamsi’s youngest son, Farhan, became the Program Sponsor of Texas Clinic Westview, continuing the family’s commitment to compassionate care. In December 2024, 40 years after opening its doors, Texas Clinic Westview also moved into a new modern facility near Westview and Campbell—designed to provide a warm, welcoming environment for recovery and healing.

Texas Clinic Building

Our expansion continued over the years. In 2008, we opened a Katy location, which later moved to the San Felipe and Augusta area and became Texas Clinic Galleria. Then in August 2019, recognizing the critical need for services during the height of the Opioid Epidemic and growing alcohol dependence in Fort Bend County, we launched Texas Clinic Grand Parkway in Richmond, off of Peak Road and the Westpark Tollway.

Today, Texas Clinic is proud to have served thousands of clients throughout the Greater Houston area. Our dedicated team—including physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, counselors, and administrative staff—works tirelessly to change lives and rebuild futures. We’ve seen former clients thrive—raising families, pursuing careers, and sending their children to college.

We offer a full spectrum of treatment options for opioid and alcohol dependence, regardless of income level. Texas Clinic accepts self-pay, grant-funded, Medicaid, and Medicare clients. Compassion and dignity are at the core of our approach, and we combine counseling, evidence-based medicine, and personalized care to help clear up those gray skies—paving the way for a bright future.
